Thursday 27th March - bike ***** – Around Alton Water – sunny
with light winds.
With the good weather continuing with light winds we decide to drive over
to to Alton Water to bike around the reservoir, only my second trip on the
bike this year with my last outing being on the 29th January! We were not
in a hurry so we had time to do our exercises, me in the sunny back garden
before I packed a picnic. Leaving Felixstowe at 11.30 we park at St. Peters
Church in Stutton at midday looking lovely with yet more daffs:) We then
bike down Church Field Lane coming out near the Primary School taking the
quiet Alton Hall Lane to the reservoir. We then follow the paths right
around Alton with its many inlets, stopping at the bird hides but there are
not many birds, a few geese and swans. We past The Wonder before crossing
Lemons Hill bridge before reaching the hilliest part of the route, we past
the large Tattingstone Hall, I once told Mag it belonged to my uncle when I
used to fish a lovely small lake for tench before the reservoir was made!
We finally make it to our usual picnic spot opposite the sailing centre and
watch an angler in a boat spinning for pike! We then continue across the
dam before heading to the sailing centre where I spot a family of Egyptian
geese with 5/6 youngsters, really early I thought! It was then back to the
van and home after another top day. There is a chance of a windsurf
tomorrow but looking marginal with rain so will have to wait and see!
